Renea bourguignatiana is a living on the land snail species from the family of aciculidae (Aciculidae) in order architaenioglossa ( "Alt-Bandzüngler"). The distribution area is limited to a very small area near Menton in the Alpes-Maritimes and Ventimiglia ( Liguria ) department on the French-Italian border.

features

The (adult) case measures 3.3 to 3.8 mm in height and 1.0 to 1.05 mm in width. It is cylindrical-spindle-shaped with 7¼ to 8 moderately to slightly arched turns. The last three turns are about the same width, the last turn is clearly flattened. The protoconch with 1¾ is smooth, then fine ribs set in. The penultimate turn also has 54 to 64 ribs. The mouth is U-shaped and comparatively narrow when viewed from the front. The mouth rim, which is slightly turned outwards, is wide, the rim is thickly thickened on the inside. In the side view, the palatal edge (= outer edge) of the mouth is strongly curved forward, the peak point of the bend is below the center of the bend. The regularity of the bend is canceled shortly before it meets the penultimate turn. This creates a deep sinus there. A real sinulus, such as B. at Renea paillona is not trained. There is no bulge in the neck and there is no angularis. The parietalkallus is designed as a flat elongated hump. Shortly before and a little to the left of the spindle it is more pronounced. The navel is closed by a narrow extension of this callus.

The case is colored horn brown.

Similar species

Renea moutonii is similar to Renea bourguignatiana , but is larger, slimmer and has a narrower mouth rim . With Renea paillona , the mouth is wider in the frontal view and the mouth lip is not so much thickened.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species was originally described from Pleistocene or postglacial deposits in the Gorge de St. Louis near Menton ( Département Alpes-Maritimes , France). In 1977 more specimens were found only about 10 km northeast of the type locality. Also in 1977 living animals were found near Ventimiglia ( Province of Imperia , Italy).

The species lives in mesophilic forests with European hop beech ( Ostrya carpinifolia ), downy oak ( Quercus pubescens ) and holm oak ( Quercus ilex ) in the damp leaf litter.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first described by Geoffrey Nevill in 1880 . It is the type species of the genus Renea Nevill, 1880. The Locus typicus is the Gorge de St. Louis near Menton ( Alpes-Maritimes , France).

Danger

The "IUCN Red List of Threatened Species" classifies the species as "critically endangered" (= threatened with extinction).
