Renzo Ghiotti

Renzo Ghiotti (born May 21, 1951 ) is a San Marinese politician. In 1994/95 he was one of the two Capitani Reggenti (heads of state) of San Marino and from 1986 to 1993 the health minister of his country.

Life

Ghiotti was a member of the San Marinese parliament, the Consiglio Grande e Generale , from 1983 to 2001. In the 21st , 22nd and 23rd legislative periods he represented the Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese (PDCS) in parliament and then joined the newly founded Alleanza Popolare dei Democratici Sammarinesi per la Repubblica (AP), on whose list he was for the 24th legislature was elected to Parliament from 1998 to 2001. In the 2001 parliamentary election, he ran again for the PDCS, but failed to make it into parliament.

In the two governments formed by PDCS and Partito Comunista Sammarinese (PCS), Ghiotti was Minister of Health from 1998 to 1992 (Deputato per la Sanità e la Sicurezza Sociale) ; he also kept this office in the coalition of PDCS and Partito Socialista Sammarinese, which ruled from 1992 until the end of the legislative period in July 1993 .

For the term of office from October 1, 1994 to April 1, 1995, he was elected together with Luciano Ciavatta as Capitano Reggente (head of state of San Marino).

Ghiotti has been the San Marino ambassador to Slovenia since 2001 (based in San Marino).

Since 2007 he has been chairman of the San Marino Association of Blood and Organ Donors , Associazione Volontari Sammarinesi Sangue e Organi (AVSSO).

Awards

Ghiotti was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on June 11, 1990 .
