Renzo Rossellini (composer)
Renzo Rossellini (born February 2, 1908 in Rome , † May 13, 1982 in Monte Carlo , Monaco ) was an Italian composer , musician and musicologist .
Life
Rossellini studied composition in Rome and conducting with Bernardino Molinari . In 1933 he was appointed director of the Liceo Musicale Giovanni Baptista Pergolesi in Varese , in 1940 he became a teacher of composition in Rome, and in 1970 he was finally director of the Monte Carlo Opera . In addition to his active musical activity, Rossellini also worked as a music critic for the daily newspaper Il Messaggero .
His brother was the film director and composer Roberto Rossellini , his niece the actress Isabella Rossellini . For Roberto Rossellini he wrote the score for numerous films, including Rome, Open City , Paisà , Stromboli and Reise in Italien .
Works
Rossellini wrote numerous ballets, oratorios, cantatas, four operas ( La Guerra (1956), Il vortice (1958), Uno sguardo dal ponte (1961), L'Annonce faite à Marie (1970)), symphonies as well as chamber music, songs and film scores .
