Reparata (the "Recovered") is an early Christian martyr who around the year 250 in Caesarea in Palestine , the martyrdom to have suffered. Her feast day in the Catholic Church is October 8th.

Your name appears for the first time in an appendix to the martyrology of the Anglo-Saxon Benedictine , theologian and historian Beda Venerabilis . In his summary of various martyrologies, including that of Bedas, Usuard included them in his martyrology. From there it was accepted into the Martyrologium Romanum .

Since "Reparata" is also the epithet of St. Pelagia , it cannot be ruled out that the Repara legend is connected with this, especially since October 8th is the commemoration day for both.

Legend

St. According to tradition, which only began in the 9th century, Reparata was executed at the age of 12 under the Roman Emperor Decius in Caesarea Maritima after she was said to have suffered cruel torture. According to the late legend, this included cutting off the breasts and cutting up the intestines. Legend has it that when she was finally beheaded, a white dove rose to heaven.

Reparata is especially venerated in Florence and Naples , but also in Worms and Speyer . In Florence there was a cathedral consecrated to Saint Reparata ( Santa Reparata ) , over which the current cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore was built from 1296 . The Nice Cathedral bears the patronage of the saints. A relic can be found in the church of St. Marien am Behnitz in Berlin , consecrated in 1848 . She is the patron saint of Nice and Florence. Many streets and squares are named after her, especially in Italy.

Representations of St. Reparata have been known in Florence since the 14th century; she has no special iconographic attributes, but usually only holds a martyr's palm .
