The Republican Party (of Namibia) (RP; German  Republican Party ) was from October 5, 1977 to December 18, 2010 and has been a conservative political party in Namibia again since mid-2014 .

history

The Republican Party (RP) was founded on October 5th, 1977 by Dirk Mudge in what was then Apartheid - South West Africa . On December 1, 1977, the party founded its party newspaper “ Die Republikein ” with Johannes Spies as its first editor-in-chief. In the 1980s, the Republican Party became a founding member of the Democratic Gym Alliance and worked under that umbrella until 2003. The Republican Party split in 2003 and has been running independently in Namibia since then.

Party merger and dissolution

On September 7, 2010 the RP announced the electoral union with the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) and decided to dissolve the party on October 2, 2010 (due to the practical feasibility and the avoidable loss of the parliamentary seat, this was only on Completed December 18, 2010).

In 2014, the dissolution was effectively reversed by a party congress that was held.
