The Christian Democratic Party Voice (CDV to German  about Democratic Christian Party of the voice ) is a political party in Namibia . The party was founded in 2000 (other sources speak of 2012) on the basis of evangelical - Christian values and was recognized by the Namibian electoral commission on March 24, 2013 .

history

The CDV took part in the parliamentary elections in Namibia for the first time in 2014 . However, it did not put up its own candidate for the 2014 presidential election .

The author of the Namibian Sun , Faith Sankwasa, assumed in 2014 that the founding of the party would lead to further fragmentation of the party landscape and a weakening of the opposition in Namibia.

Program and background

The chairman of the party, Festus Thomas, demanded that Namibia be declared a " Christian State ". The party calls itself the only pro-life party in Namibia and adds that “spiritual leaders” are needed in parliament to maintain the balance of power in Namibia. In terms of foreign policy, ties to Europe are to be strengthened. The party seeks improvements in the education and health sectors and the ownership of large companies is to be decentralized.

The party is a representation of the interests of evangelical Pentecostal sects and charismatics who are currently experiencing a membership boom in Namibia. Many of these sects are accused of exploiting the gullibility of their members. Among other things, members are promised prosperity and people are accused of “ witchcraft ”. CCN General Secretary Ludwig Beuken demanded that the government should control these groups more closely in order to prevent the exploitation of the Namibian population by Christian sects. Festus Thomas rejects this suggestion and demands that the evangelical movements be given time to regulate themselves.
