The Republic Stadium Spartak ( Russian Республиканский стадион "Спартак" ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Russian city of Vladikavkaz , Republic of North Ossetia-Alania . It has seats for 32,464 spectators (including 75 VIP seats), making it the fourth largest stadium in Russia. It serves as a home for the Alania Wladikawkas association .
history
The Republic Stadium Spartak in Vladivavkaz, a Russian city in the Caucasus on the border with Georgia , was built in 1962 according to Tamara Mikhailovna Butayeva's project. Since then, the Alania Wladikawkas club has been hosting its home games here. Alania has been the Russian champion once , namely in 1995. Two more times (1992 and 1996) they were runner-up. The championship of the Soviet Union could not be won, with the greatest success being two second places in 1966 and 1983.
The successful period in the nineties of the 20th century enabled some participation in international competitions. For example, games were held in this stadium. B. against Borussia Dortmund , Liverpool FC , Glasgow Rangers or RSC Anderlecht . From 2001, however, the successful period in Vladikavkaz came to an end. The club was relegated from the Premjer League in 2010 and has played in the 2nd Russian league since then.
In 2011 Alania Wladikawkas managed the curious feat of qualifying as a second division team for the 2011/12 season in the UEFA Europa League .
