history
The Rhodesia Castle was built under the hull number 1431 in the shipyard of Harland & Wolff in Belfast and ran on April 5, 1951 by Stack . The delivery to the Union-Castle Line took place on October 6, the commissioning in the regular service from Great Britain to South Africa on October 16, 1951. The Rhodesia Castle was the first of a total of three sister ships for this route. The other two were the Kenya Castle and the Braemar Castle , which both entered service in 1952.
After the service to South Africa was no longer profitable for Union Castle, the Rhodesia Castle was retired and launched on May 4, 1967 after less than 16 years . Almost six months later, the ship arrived in Kaohsiung for demolition on October 29, 1967 . The sister ship Braemar Castle suffered the same fate the year before after only 14 years of service, while the Kenya Castle remained in active service until 1996 after being converted as a cruise ship under the name Americanis .
