Rhys Francis Taylor (born April 7, 1990 in Neath ) is a Welsh football goalkeeper who is currently under contract with AFC Newport County .

Career

society

Rhys Taylor played for Chelsea FC's youth academy but got a professional contract in 2007. He mainly plays in the reserve team, but has also been allowed to sit on the professional bench due to injury. In November 2009 it was awarded to the Queens Park Rangers . However, the loan ended on January 4, 2010, without his playing a single game. During the 2009/10 season he was used several times as a goalkeeper for the reserve team.

In June 2010 he trained with Crewe Alexandra during the pre-season phase and got clearance from Chelsea for a loan period. The loan period initially ran for two months, with the possibility of extension until the end of the season. Taylor hoped to get more match practice at Crewe Alexandra through the injury to goalkeeper Steve Phillips . On July 6th, he moved to Crewe Alexandra for two months. Just six days later, he played his first game for Alexandra in a friendly, with no goals conceded in the 4-0 win. Then the loan period was extended until the end of the season and it was planned with Taylor as the goalkeeper.

On January 2, Chelsea announced that Taylor would be loaned to Rotherham United for a month . On the same day, he made his debut in a 3-0 win over Bradford City . On January 31, the loan contract was extended until the end of the season.

At the end of the loan period Taylor returned to Chelsea, but his expiring contract was not renewed, as were the contracts of José Bosingwa and Salomon Kalou and they left the club on June 1.

After his release from Chelsea, he initially moved to Preston North End without a contract . But after he was only allowed to sit on the bench twice, he signed on to the lower-class club Macclesfield Town as a replacement for the injured Lance Cronin . On February 1, he made his league debut for Macclesfield in a 4-0 win over Ebbsfleet United . He has been a regular goalkeeper at Macclesfield since his debut and signed a new contract for the 2013-14 season.

National team

In 2004 he played for the U-17 for the first time, and by 2006 he had nine international appearances. From 2006 to 2009 he played three games for the U-19s. In 2008, Taylor was nominated for the Welsh U-21s by coach Brian Flynn at the age of 17 . Flynn said he had a bright future ahead of him and was a contender for the regular spot in goal for the Welsh national football team .
