Richard C. Sarafian

Richard Caspar Sarafian (born April 28, 1930 in New York City , New York - † September 18, 2013 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American director , actor , screenwriter and film producer .

Live and act

Richard C. Sarafian made his debut as a director in 1961 directing an episode of the television series Maverick . This was followed by numerous works for television, in 1962 he made his first feature film, Die Geächteten vom Rio Grande .

In 1954 he wrote his first screenplay for a film adaptation of Attila.

His road movie Vanishing Point San Francisco with Barry Newman was released in 1971.

His last film as a director was Starfire from 1990, which he had released under the pseudonym Alan Smithee because he was not satisfied with the editing.

Sarafian was married to Joan Altman, Robert Altman's sister . The two had five children; the four sons are all involved in the film business. The best known is the director Deran Sarafian .
