Richard Crooks (drummer)

Richard "Richie" Crooks (* around 1940; † December 16, 2014 ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( drums ).

Live and act

Crooks grew up in Gilroy, California and played drums in the high school band. After earning a Bachelor of Arts from San José State University , he toured California and then worked in New York City. For 25 years he played with Dr. John ; Crooks worked u. a. also on recordings by Janis Ian , Loudon Wainwright III , Bob Dylan ( Blood on the Tracks , 1975), The Village People , Marlena Shaw , Roy Buchanan , The Four Tops , Leonard Cohen , Tom Chapin and Paul Simon . In the field of jazz he was also involved in recordings by Paula Lockheart , Peggy King , Maria Muldaur , Jimmy Ponder , Corky Hale , Gail Wynters and Peter Ecklund . From 2008 he lived with his wife in Key West, where he still performed in clubs at the local level, until a serious illness ended his career.
