Richard Friebe

Richard Friebe (born June 29, 1970 in Erfurt ) is a German science journalist and non-fiction author .

Life

Friebe studied from 1992 at the University of Konstanz and at the Witwatersrand University in South Africa Biology , specializing in ecology . In 1998 he completed his studies with a diploma . He was a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2006 to 2007 . In 2010, Friebe was awarded the Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Science Journalism . He writes for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Stern , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung , the Tagesspiegel , and the Time magazine , among others . He worked as a photographer for the Financial Times and the German edition of Technology Review .

In his book Biohacking: Genetic Engineering from the Garage , published in 2013 together with Hanno Charisius and Sascha Karberg , he describes the do-it-yourself biology scene in Europe and the USA . In 2012/2013 the authors received the Hofschneider Research Prize for Science and Medical Journalism for articles on this topic .

With his book Hormesis , published in 2016, Friebe provides an introduction to the concept of hormesis in connection with health.

Richard Friebe lives in Berlin and Itzehoe .
