Richard Socher

Richard Socher (* 1984 or 1985 in Dresden ) is a German computer scientist . As chief scientist at Salesforce , he works in the field of artificial intelligence , neural networks and deep learning .

life and work

The son of two GDR scientists grew up temporarily in Ethiopia . He passed the Abitur at the Dresden-Plauen high school and studied computational linguistics in Leipzig (Bachelor 2006) and Saarbrücken (Master 2008). He conducted research on neural networks for language processing at Princeton University and Stanford University . In 2016 , Socher did his doctorate with Christopher Manning in Stanford on the subject of Recursive Deep Learning for Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision . Socher turned down the offer of a professorship at Princeton.

In 2014 he founded the start-up company Metamind, which was taken over by Salesforce in 2016, where Socher has since worked as chief scientist.

Socher lives in Silicon Valley .
