Rick Shapiro (born April 13, 1959 in New Jersey ) is an American comedian who lives in Los Angeles .

Career

Shapiro spent the early days of his career in New York City and New Jersey, starting out as a stand-up comedian on Catch A Rising Star on Broadway in the early 1980s . In addition to regular stage appearances, he worked in numerous films by Louis CK as an actor and lead actor in the 1990s , including Tomorrow Night . He also presented the frequently appearing character "Angry Poet" in Late Night with Conan O'Brien shows. Published in 1998 Shapiro his first comedy CD Unconditional Love , which Billboard "hard-edged and uncompromising" ( "tough and uncompromising") called.

In the 2000s, Shapiro continued his career in several areas. He performs as a stand-up comedian in the US and internationally, including at the Edinburgh Festival , where a one-man show of his was premiered in 2007, and in Australia, where he toured in 2009. Shapiro made his first video game appearance in 2008 when he played the character Mason Waylon on PLR radio on Grand Theft Auto IV - a guest on a talk show who ended up drilling holes in the heads of two other guests.

His television roles include Jerry in Lucky Louie from Louis CK on HBO . He also plays in a scene that was originally filmed for the pilot episode of Louie .

Shapiro's first book Unfiltered , which contains more than 200 previously unpublished texts, was published in 2012 along with his second CD Catalyst for Change .

style

Rick Shapiro is best known for his Stream of Consciousness monologue on stage, which can last over an hour. In it he addresses topics that most comedians see as controversial or taboo. His style is described as "explosive".

Private life

In 2013 Shapiro was diagnosed with Parkinson's . As of August 2014, he has practically no symptoms and is productive.
