The Riedbach , called Wiesenbach in the upper reaches of the Wiesendangen municipality , is a 7.18 kilometer long right tributary of the Eulach .

geography

course

The source of the Riedbach mentioned on the upper reaches to Wiesendangen Wiesenbach or Wisenbach lies at about 583  m above sea level. M. a little northwest of Gündlikon . After 700 meters, the stream flows into the Oberweiher, which is located in a small forest area. After the outflow from the Oberweiher, the brook takes up the left tributary Obertannenbach. The stream then runs under a tunnel for more than a kilometer and also flows past Bertschikon and takes in another stream on the left, the Mülihaldenbach, without seeing the surface. After that, the creek runs above ground for a length of almost 400 meters, only to be overturned again for 250 meters.

Then the stream slowly arrives in Wiesendangen and takes on another tributary, the Juchbach, on the right-hand side. The brook flows through the center of the village, lined with streets on both sides, and then flows along the city path to Winterthur .

In Winterthur, where the stream is now called Riedbach, the water first flows past the eastern edge of the SBB entertainment facility in Oberwinterthur, taking up two left tributaries, then crossing under the entertainment facility and taking in the oak forest ditch north of the Technorama on its right . Finally, the Riedbach flows southwest of the Oberwinterthur train station at an altitude of 439  m above sea level. M. under the junction Hegistrasse / Frauenfelderstrasse in the Eulach.

Catchment area

The entire catchment area of the Riedbach is not recorded. The catchment area of the creek before the confluence of the Eichwaldsgraben, which rises in the Schoren forest in the northeast of Oberwinterthur, is, however, 8.65 square kilometers and drains about half of the Wiesendangens municipal area .

etymology

Originally the river in Bertschikon was called Mülibach, today the stream is completely overturned there. In the Wiesendangen area, the stream is known as the Wiesenbach or Wisenbach, although the latter form is rather uncommon. A possible derivation could come from the Wiesendanger meadows, which can also be seen on the wild map west of the village. Sometimes the body of water flowing through Wiesendangen is only called the Dorfbach. The brook got its name in Oberwinterthur from the fact that it once drained the Wiesendanger Ried .
