The Thiedebach is a left tributary of the Oker, which flows into the Oker in Leiferde . It rises as a vineyard in Salzgitter-Thiede and receives the name Thiedebach at the level of the district road K18 ( Danziger Straße ). He is the namesake of a settlement in Leiferde.

Near the A39, the bank area along the forest has been made more natural.

Vineyard

The vineyard rises in the area of the street Ellernweg and meets there with a field stream , which is also referred to as a vineyard on the official maps. This begins north of a pebble pond located on federal road 248, the water surface of which is about 5 meters lower than that of the creek and is thus eliminated as a source. In the area of the Ellernweg there was a bathing establishment from 1936 to the 1950s that was supplied from the spring water. The vineyard runs in the village to the north along the former Braunschweig – Derneburg railway line , where today a park with several ponds has been created and where flax rotting used to be. The name Rottekuhlen noted on the cards indicates this. The area to the west and north of the old town center was used for clay mining from the middle of the 19th century until the 1970s, as evidenced by a clay pit in the Steterburg area and the street name Am Ziegelkamp .

At the level of the former New Apostolic Church, the vineyard runs underground in the pipe, further under the discount store on Adalbert-Stifter-Strasse and crosses Panscheberg . Between Ina-Seidel-Straße and Heynenweg, it delimits the properties of both streets, crosses Heynenweg and reappears on the surface at Brandhelm's garden . Furthermore, as a straight field stream, it delimits the sports grounds to the east.

The name is derived from the Low German word for stream or small body of water, which can also be found in the name endings -riede .

Thiedebach

Approximately at the level of the Thieder indoor swimming pool, the brook makes a sharp bend to the west and shortly afterwards to the northwest. From here on it is listed under the name Thiedebach on the official maps. He crosses the county road K18, happened a former west wastewater treatment plant located terrain and ranks Sierßer wood coming from the Steterburger Mill Pond Mill Brook on. This is also referred to as a vineyard on the higher-scale official maps.

Along the A39 federal motorway , the Thiedebach delimits a piece of forest to the east. In this area, in the course of the new construction of the motorway junction in 2008, improvements to the waterfront areas were carried out as compensatory measures. At the northern end of the forest, it enters the city of Braunschweig. From the left it takes in a field stream that is fed from the Geitelder source Wasche .

Leiferde (Braunschweig)

Here, too, various compensatory measures were carried out in favor of the Thiedebach in the course of the construction of the Leiferde junction. It crosses the federal highway 248 at the level of the old customs house and limits the area of the Thiedebach settlement to the north and to the northwest. In the bend he takes a drainage ditch from the settlement area. The settlement is enclosed by the Thiedebacher Weg street. In the official maps, the ditch south of the settlement, which receives the waters from the parcel Above the Sea, is called Neuer Thiedebach .

The Thiedebach crosses under the Schenkendamm and runs west of the deep meadow forest along the cement works, at the northern end of which it crosses the railway line to Braunschweig and closes the Hahnenkamp settlement area to the north. In 2008, a compensation area was created directly on the railway line. Here there is a brook-like depression in the terrain as an overflow possibility for the Thiedebach through the parcels of land on the embankment into the old Oker course . As a compensatory measure for the new construction of the Okerbrücke Berkenbuschstraße in Rüningen, this recess was expanded into a pond area with a hill that characterizes the landscape. The stream itself is lined with trees and runs straight to the east into the Oker.

history

The street name Panscheberg in Thiede has its origin in a castle-like complex from pre-Christian times, which was created at the crossing of a trade route over the vineyard. The name can be traced back to "Pascheburg" and means something like a passport control. A memorial stone has been erected in the piped area of the vineyard by the nearby discount store, which indicates the historical importance of this place.

Between the Steterburg monastery and the town of Leiferde there is a hedge-like fortification along the Thiedebach, at the end of which in 1283 a forework of the monastery is mentioned. There the trunk road of today's B248 crosses the course of the Thiedebach. The area, which is away from the village center of Leiferde, is called Thiedebach in old maps .

Water quality

The Thiedebach belongs with the Oker to the Schunter , the Brückenbach and the Fuhsekanal to the water body group 15005. According to a concept of measures drawn up in 2012, the stock did not improve significantly between 2007 and 2010 and is assessed as bad from a biological point of view. Since its catchment area is determined by intensive agriculture and loess soils, it carries turbidity, fertilizer and plant protection residues into the Oker. The morphological qualities are poor due to the predominantly straight and therefore remote water structure and can be improved through further measures.
