Geographical location

The Riesberg tower stands on the northern slope of the Ries or Rißbergs to almost 450  m above sea level. NHN , as the crow flies around 850 m south-southeast of the city center of Murrhardt, which extends in the Murr valley. It can only be reached on forest trails. The path there along the northern flank of the Rißberg also opens up the Felsenmeer near Murrhardt further to the east.

history

The construction of the Riesberg Tower was decided in June 1973 and in 1974 it was carried out as a timber frame construction.

In 2006 a local association took over the maintenance of the area and a little later the tower was given a roof.

The tower burned down on the evening of September 20, 2008, perhaps after an arson attack . The volunteer fire brigade put out the fire, but only charred remains of the wooden scaffolding remained. During the clean-up work, the plug-in beech near the tower was also felled , which had already been damaged and was now irredeemably lost by the fire.

In July 2009 the city of Murrhardt announced that the tower should be rebuilt. Completion was initially expected in June 2010, the new tower has been accessible again since August 14, 2010, it and a nearby barbecue area were inaugurated on September 25, 2010.
