The Rifugio Mario Premuda of the Società Alpina delle Giulie (a Trieste section of the CAI ) is the lowest alpine club hut on the Italian mainland at just 82 m above sea level .

location

The hut is located northeast of Trieste in Bagnoli della Rosandra, municipality of San Dorligo della Valle , less than 5 km from the Mediterranean Sea and less than 2 km from the Slovenian border. It is located in the Trieste Karst belonging Val Rosandra ( Slovenian Dolina Glinščice) and is a stage on the Via Alpina (and at the fork of red and yellow route).

history

The rifugio was built in 1933 and completely renovated in 1989. Named after the Trieste mountaineer and speleologist Mario Premuda, who had a fatal accident in the Julian Alps on Picco di Mezzodi in 1931 . The climbing school, named after the Trieste alpinist Emilio Comici , is located in the hut . The Rifugio is a popular excursion destination because of its cuisine, but offers no overnight accommodation and is open all year round with the exception of February.
