Right at Your Door is an American thriller and disaster film from 2006. The film was the directorial debut of Chris Gorak , who also wrote the screenplay.

Several explosions of dirty bombs drop a shower of ash over Los Angeles , sometimes referred to as poison , sometimes as a contagious virus and sometimes as radiation . The authorities are extensively quarantining the city . The population is asked to lock themselves hermetically sealed in their houses. Anyone who is contaminated by the toxic ash rain is on the street, is followed and taken away by the security officers dressed in protective equipment. The film describes the fate of Brad trapped in the sealed house and his wife Lexi, who fled the city and hid from the security guards.

action

The married couple Brad and Lexi have moved into their own house in a suburb of Los Angeles. While the unemployed musician Brad wants to spend the day doing the interior work, his wife Lexi drives through the morning traffic to work in downtown Los Angeles. Shortly afterwards, Brad learns of several bomb explosions in the center of town over the radio.

Brad tries in vain to reach his wife on her cell phone. When the radio reports describe an increasingly bad disaster scenario, Brad first tries to drive his car into town to find Lexi. Brad is unequivocally told by a police patrol already wearing protective masks to drive back to his home. Brad has to watch as another driver who does not follow the instructions is shot by the police on the street. From the city center dark clouds of smoke rise far into the sky, the radio reports speak of poison gas that was released in the explosions, the radio listeners are instructed to avoid any contact with the deadly rain of ash.

Back at his home, Brad refuses for the time being to comply with the official request to completely “isolate” the apartment from the outside world. Only through the craftsman Alvaro, who works in the neighborhood, who found refuge in Brad's apartment, can Brad be persuaded to comply with the official request. Together, Brad and Alvaro hermetically seal all windows and doors from the outside world with adhesive tape. Shortly afterwards, the ash rain generated by the explosions fell on the suburbs of Los Angeles.

Brad and Alvaro, who have never met in person before, are worried about the fate of their wives, but attempts to contact them by telephone fail. Meanwhile, the radio reports describe an ever worse disaster scenario, the population is clearly instructed to avoid any contact with the outside world or with people who came into contact with the poisoned ash rain. Los Angeles is considered to be quarantined.

When Lexi, who was drawn by the explosion or the contaminated outside air, suddenly appears in front of the locked front door and begs to be admitted, Brad faces a difficult decision. However, he remains harsh and, as ordered by the authorities through radio, forbids Lexi to enter the house. Desperate Lexi smashes through a window during a fit of anger. Brad and Alvaro manage to repair this leak immediately, but they cannot prevent a small amount of the poisonous ash from entering the house.

Hopelessness spreads. The radio reports, which can be heard in the film as permanent background music, console the residents of an early rescue, without being able to provide specific information about the time of the rescue or generally about the type and danger of the poisoning. Brad and Lexi remain separated from each other by the plastic insulation, even though Brad made some areas of the apartment accessible to Lexi. In their oppressive situation, the two can only give each other a little hope through conversation.

Alvaro decides, against the instructions of the authorities, to leave the isolated building to look for his own wife. Subsequently, nothing more is told in the film about his further fate. Lexi discovers Timmy, the neighbor boy who is also infected, in the neighborhood, and later Rick, Lexi's former friend, visits the property. Although unequivocally banned by the authorities on the radio, the three decide to go to a hospital in the city center.

The house is then visited by government officials dressed in protective gear. Brad tries in vain to learn about the effects of the disaster and how to save him. However, he complies with the request to give the officers a sample of the ashes that have come into the house.

Lexi returns alone the next day and lets Brad know that Timmy managed to get to the hospital while Rick was being taken away by security officers and she was able to escape herself.

The following day, the property is surrounded by several government officials. Lexi does not manage to escape and she is detained, but a paramedic explains to her that she has a chance of recovery. Brad, on the other hand, is told that a deadly virus in the ashes that entered the house has increased so much due to the high internal temperature that has formed in recent days that there is no longer any hope for him. Immediately the house is hermetically sealed from the outside. Doors and windows are closed with wooden panels. Brad still manages to break one of the locked windows, but the armed security forces force him back and kill him by injecting poison gas into the house, which is covered with a huge plastic tent.
