The Rimac Concept_One is a two - seat electric powered sports car designed and manufactured by Rimac Automobili . With an output of 800 kW (1088 PS) and 1600 Nm of torque, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds and is referred to as the first electric super sports car, as well as the most powerfully accelerating electric car in 2013. Eight vehicles were sold by October 2014. In 2016, the final version appeared with increased power to 900 kW (1224 hp), which could accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds.
history
The Concept_One was presented for the first time at the International Motor Show 2011 in Frankfurt am Main and at the Paris Motor Show 2012 in Paris . A car was already delivered to a Spanish customer in January 2013. Eight vehicles were sold by October 2014. The Concept_One will cost $ 980,000 , with only 88 vehicles to be produced.
The Concept_One was the official zero-emission vehicle of the race director of the FIA Formula E championship 2014/15 . Among other things, the race director used it to check the race track before the start of the race.
In 2015, Rimac took part in the Pikes Peak race with a 1 megawatt electric vehicle . The vehicle took second place across all classes. The driver was the multiple Pikes Peak winner Nobuhiro Tajima. An electric car also took first place in the overall standings.
The car was continuously developed. The final version and the successor version Rimac Concept_S were presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2016.
As part of the filming of the Amazon Prime show The Grand Tour , a prototype was destroyed on June 10, 2017 by Richard Hammond , one of the three presenters. At the end of a demonstration run at the Hemberger hill climb , he lost control of the vehicle for an unexplained cause and rolled over. Hammond was able to free himself from the car and suffered an injury to his knee; shortly afterwards the vehicle went up in flames.
specification
The speed is limited to 300 km / h. Each wheel is driven by a liquid-cooled, permanently excited electric motor and accelerated or decelerated separately via a computer system according to the set setup and the current driving situation.
The energy storage is a 90 kWh lithium-ion battery (lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-oxide) with which the car has a range of 500 km. The body is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic .
In the final version presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2016, some values have been further improved: The maximum torque is 1600 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.6 seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in 6.2 seconds, and from 0 to 300 km / h in 14.2 seconds. The electronically governed top speed is now 355 km / h. The vehicle has carbon-ceramic brake discs.
Concept_S
The Concept_S was presented at the Geneva Motor Show 2016 and is a modified version of the Concept_One. The maximum output is 1018 kW (1384 PS), the maximum torque is 1800 Nm. It accelerates to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds, to 200 km / h in 5.6 seconds and to 300 km / h in 13.1 seconds. The electronic cruise control ends at 365 km / h. The vehicle has carbon-ceramic brake discs.
Derived vehicles
At the end of 2014, the Volar-e was launched. The company Applus + IDIADA built this vehicle on the basis of the Rimac Concept_One, but reduced the battery size (38 kWh) in order to save weight. The range is 200 km. The battery can be recharged within 15 minutes.
