The ring angelfish ( Pomacanthus annularis ) is a species of the genus Pomacanthus from the angelfish family (Pomacanthidae).
Appearance
Ring angelfish grow up to 30 centimeters long. Their basic body color is brown-yellow. Blue stripes extend from the head over the body and end in the slightly extended dorsal fin. The caudal fin is white.
Young ring angelfish are dark blue with light blue and white vertical stripes on the body.
distribution
It lives in the tropical Indo-Pacific , from the coast of East Africa to Japan and the Fiji Islands . Ring emperor fish alone live at depths of 1 to 30 meters. They prefer regions rich in corals and sponges.
nutrition
Ring angelfish feed on sponges , sea squirts and algae.
Aquarium keeping
Ring angelfish are occasionally imported for keeping in saltwater aquariums. Responsible enthusiasts should refrain from buying, as animals of this size cannot be given an adequate habitat. Besides the peacock angelfish ( Pygoplytes diacanthus ) the ring angelfish is the most sensitive great angelfish.
