Gustav Lindau

Gustav Lindau (born May 2, 1866 in Dessau , † October 10, 1923 in Berlin ) was a German mycologist and botanist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " Lindau ".

Live and act

Gustav Lindau began his natural history studies in Heidelberg and later Berlin , where he became a student of Simon Schwendener (1829-1919). In 1888 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the apothecia of lichen . In 1890 he became director of the Botanical Garden in Münster and assistant to Julius Oscar Brefeld (1839-1925).

From 1892 he worked as an assistant in the botanical garden in Berlin. In 1894 he completed his habilitation and became a private lecturer in philosophy. Finally in 1902 he was appointed professor.

Gustav Lindau is first described the genus Eidamia Lindau in 1904 from the department of hose mushrooms , which he in 1904 in honor of the botanist and mycologist Eduard Eidam named.

Honors

In his honor, the genus Lindauea Rendle of the plant family of the Acanthus family (Acanthaceae) was named.
