The Rio Negro ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula klagesi ) belong to the genus Myrmotherula within the ant bird family (Thamnophilidae) .
The species is endemic to Brazil in the Amazon Basin and is found in the states of Amazonas , Pará, and Roraima .
The distribution area includes tops and forest edges of the Várzea forests up to 100 m in height.
The Latin additional species refers to Samuel M. Klages (1875–1957).
features
The bird is 9 to 10 cm tall and weighs between 7 and 9 g. The male is black and white striped on the upper side, the wing covers have white tips, the flight feathers are edged white, the tail has white tips, throat and underside are whitish, the flanks are gray and black striped. It is very similar to the Amazonian barbed ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula multostriata ) and the white stripe ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula cherriei ). It differs from the likewise very similar Guayana barbed ant panties ( Myrmotherula surinamensis ) by the lack of a white interscapular spot and by 10 instead of 12 control feathers . The female has pale yellow-brown stripes on the head and underside with a slightly darker breast.
The species is monotypical .
voice
The chant is described as an evenly repeated series of paired notes, the second being shorter and almost always higher than the first.
Way of life
The food consists of various insects and spiders , which are sought individually or in pairs, mostly in dense, overhanging vegetation, also over water surfaces at treetop height, but also at forest edges and clearings down to 2 to 3 m height.
The breeding season is not known.
Hazardous situation
The stock is considered to be at risk ( Vulnerable ) due to habitat loss .
