Rita Knobel-Ulrich

Rita Knobel-Ulrich (born February 26, 1950 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German author and filmmaker . She became known in particular for a series of documentaries, reports and features from home and abroad for television and radio. She has received several awards for this work.

education and profession

Knobel-Ulrich studied Slavic Studies and Political Science in Hamburg. Study visits took her to Leningrad and Moscow. In 1983 she received her doctorate in political science. phil. As a freelance journalist, Knobel-Ulrich worked from 1976 to 1984 for the radio station NDR , Deutschlandfunk , other ARD stations as well as for the Deutsche Allgemeine Sonntagsblatt and the Frankfurter Rundschau . From 1984 to 1988 she was news editor in the current newsroom of the private TV station Sat 1 . From 1988 to 1996 she worked as a "permanent freelancer" for WDR , NDR, SWF , ZDF and RIAS-TV (later Deutsche Welle TV ). From 1994 to 1996 she was a permanent editor at NDR. In the current affairs department, she produced features and documentation and was also responsible for looking after authors. Rita Knobel-Ulrich has been working independently since 1997 and since then has developed dozens of reports and documentaries as an author and filmmaker for various broadcasters on ARD, as well as for ZDF and Deutsche Welle. Knobel-Ulrich lives in Drage in Lower Saxony .

Style and demeanor

Knobel-Ulrich is regularly accused of generalizing and clichéd style of discussion . Some of the statements she made on Anne Will's show in May 2008 caused a stir, including that Hartz IV "dear people alimentier [e]", for example in the form of an open letter from the Association of Active Employees in Germany to the German Association of Journalists and the editorial offices of ARD and WDR . She was accused of similar things in the show on Anne Will in 2015, where she was invited as a guest on the talk show on the subject of "a million refugees - How do they change Germany".
