The Hunt Began in the Harbor (Original Title: River Beat ) is a British crime film directed by Guy Green from 1954 with John Bentley , Phyllis Kirk and Leonard White in the lead roles. The film was produced for Victor Hanbury Productions .

London Police Inspector Dan Barker patrols the Thames looking for diamond smugglers. He made the acquaintance of Judy Roberts, a ship operator, to whom he immediately felt very drawn. When Judy is found in possession of some smuggled gems, the inspector has to determine if she belongs to the smugglers' gang or if she is just being used. If she is guilty, he must have her arrested despite his feelings. If she is innocent, he must rescue her from the clutches of the gang who are known to die anyone who testifies against them.
