The River Loddon is a watercourse in Hampshire and Berkshire , England . It arises as a drain from the Peat Moor between Basingstoke and Old Basing . It flows in meanders in a north or north-easterly direction to its confluence with the Thames west of Wargrave . Between Hurst and Twyford in the east and Woodley Green - a suburb of Reading - and Charvil in the west, its course divides into two arms, the River Loddon and the Old River .
