The Slaney or River Slaney ( Irish : An tSláine or Abhainn na Sláine , named after Sláinghe, a myth. King of the Fir Bolg ) is a river in the southeast of the Republic of Ireland .
The River Slaney has its source at Mount Lugnaquilla ( Log na Coille ) in the western Wicklow Mountains in County Wicklow and flows first west and then south through Counties Wicklow , Carlow and Wexford , before flowing after 117 km at the town of Wexford into St . -George's Channel called part of the Irish Sea empties. Its estuary is a wide and flat estuary and is called Wexford Harbor (Irish Cuan Loch Garman ).
Cities that the River Slaney flows south through include Baltinglass , Tullow , Bunclody , Enniscorthy, and Wexford. 32 road bridges and a railway bridge cross it.
Salmon and trout are fished in the season .
