Mistassibi River is a river in central Québec , Canada.
It has a length of 298 km and a catchment area of 9325 km². It has its origin in an area of nameless lakes about 50 km east of the Canso Bay of Lac Albanel , a neighboring lake to the east of Lac Mistassini .
The name "Mistassibi", only in use since the end of the 19th century, comes from the Innu language and means "great river". An alternative river name was Rivière aux Foins .
Just like the neighboring Rivière Mistassini , the Rivière Mistassibi runs in a north-south direction. It flows through the lake Lac au Foin . Its tributaries include the Rivière aux Oiseaux , Rivière du Dépôt and Rivière Mistassibi Nord-Est . The Rivière Mistassibi finally flows into the Rivière Mistassini at Mistassini , a district of Dolbeau- Mistassini.
Hydropower plants
The company Minashtuk Inc. operates since 2000 a 12 MW -Flusskraftwerk on Mistassibi River.
