The Rivière Watshishou is a tributary of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence in the Canadian province of Québec .

The Rivière Watshishou rises at an altitude of 564  m in the Canadian Shield , about 90 km from the south coast of the Labrador Peninsula , not far from the source of the Rivière Romaine Sud-Est . It flows through a series of lakes in a predominantly southerly direction - including Lac Apvril , Lac Watshishou and Lac Holt . There are several rapids along the river. Route 138 crosses the river 4.5 km above the estuary . It flows 8 km east of the municipality of Baie-Johan-Beetz between the larger towns of Havre-Saint-Pierre and Natashquan north of the Île d'Anticosti in the Jacques-Cartier-Strasse . The neighboring river Petite rivière Watshishou flows east of the Rivière Watshishou into the Saint Lawrence Gulf. The Rivière Watshishou has a length of 134 km. It drains an area of ​​1064 km². The mean discharge is 30 m³ / s.

The Rivière Watshishou and the lake area through which it flows is known as a good fishing area. Angel coveted fish are freshwater salmon ( Ouananiche ), lake trout and brook trout ( speckled trout ).
