Rob Gibson (born October 10, 1945 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Gibson attended the High School of Glasgow and then studied Modern History at Dundee University and graduated with a Masters degree . He continued his education at Dundee College of Education and then taught at Alness and Invergordon .

Political career

Gibson joined the SNP in 1966 and was later elected to the Council of Ross and Cromarty . In the general election in February 1974 , he ran for the first time in national elections in the constituency of Inverness , but could not win the direct mandate. In the constituency of Ross, Cromarty and Skye , Gibson ran in the lower house elections in 1987 and 1992 , but missed entry into the British House of Commons in both cases .

In the 2003 general election , Gibson ran in the constituency of Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross , but clearly missed the direct mandate. Since he was also set on the regional electoral list of the electoral region Highlands and Islands , Gibson received as a result of the election result one of seven list mandates of the electoral region and moved into the Scottish Parliament . In 2007, Gibson lost again to Jamie Stone in the constituency of Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, despite clear gains in the vote, but defended his mandate for the electoral region. As part of the 2011 constituency reform, the constituency of Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross was dissolved and largely incorporated into the new constituency of Caithness, Sutherland and Ross . Jamie Stone did not run for the 2011 general election and Gibson managed to win the direct mandate of the newly created constituency for the first time. At the parliamentary elections in 2016 Gibson has not raced for more and different to the end of the legislature out of the Scottish Parliament.
