Robbie France

Robbie France (born December 5, 1959 in Sheffield , England ; † January 14, 2012 in Mazarrón , Spain ) was a British drummer who played in the bands Diamond Head , UFO , Ellis, Beggs & Howard , Wishbone Ash , Skunk Anansie and Alphaville was active.

biography

France, who had spent his youth in Australia and played in various bands there, joined the NWoBHM band Diamond Head in 1983 after his return to England . He played a few songs from the Canterbury album after the previous drummer Duncan Scott left the band while the album was being recorded. After Diamon Head broke up in 1985, France joined the band UFO for a few months . In 1986 he founded his own band One Nation and began giving professional drum lessons, soon he also had a regular column in the specialist magazine Rhythm .

In 1987 he joined Ellis, Beggs & Howard . With their debut single Big bubbles, no troubles , the formation had success especially in mainland Europe. However, the success in England and with their debut album Homelands failed to materialize, so that the group broke up during the recording of their second album, which began in 1989.

Frances then became a member of Wishbone Ash , with whom he toured in the fall of 1990 and recorded the drum tracks for three songs on the album Strange Affair .

In 1994 Richard Keith Lewis contacted him to start a new band. This project eventually became the band Skunk Anansie and France played on the debut album Paranoid And Sunburnt . A short time later he switched to Alphaville , with whom he toured and recorded music.

On June 22, 1996 he injured his Achilles tendon and had to end his career as a professional musician due to severe complications after the subsequent operation.

In 2011 his first novel Six Degrees South was published . France died on January 14, 2012 at the age of 52 from complications from a ruptured blood vessel.
