Robby Kelley (born May 26, 1990 in Burlington , Vermont ) is an American ski racer . He specializes in the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom . Robby Kelley is the son of Lindy Cochran , a successful ski racer in the 1970s, and the brother of Jessica and Tim Kelley , who were also ski racers.

biography

Growing up in Starksboro , Kelley learned to ski in the family-owned winter sports area Cochran's Ski Area in northern Vermont . He attended Mount Abraham Union High School in Bristol in the fall and spring and the Mount Mansfield Winter Academy in Stowe during the winter months to devote more time to ski racing. In 2009 he began studying at the University of Vermont in Burlington .

Kelley drove his first FIS races in the 2005/2006 season. After winning an FIS race for the first time the next winter, it was also used in the Nor-Am Cup from the 2008/2009 season . During his first three years in the Nor-Am Cup, he was able to place in a total of six races in the top 20, but top results did not materialize, which is why he was never used in the Junior World Championships . After Kelley was accepted into the C-squad of the US ski team in 2011, he celebrated his first two victories in the Nor-Am Cup on December 13 and 14, 2011 in the giant slalom of Panorama . Before that, he had never finished in the top ten in any Nor-Am race. With these two victories, he secured the win of the Nor-Am giant slalom ranking in 2011/12 . At the end of winter he became the American giant slalom champion.

At the beginning of the 2012/13 season , Kelley made his World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Sölden . He won his first World Cup points on January 12, 2013 with 23rd place in the giant slalom in Adelboden . To this day that is his best placement in the World Cup. He was able to place himself in the top 30 3 more times, but never got past 25th place.

Kelley took part in two Alpine World Ski Championships for his home country . At the 2013 World Championships in Schladming , he reached 26th place in the giant slalom.
