Jessica Kelley (born October 5, 1982 in Burlington , Vermont ) is a former American ski racer who was particularly successful in giant slalom , but also in slalom . In 2002 she became junior runner-up in giant slalom and won the giant slalom classification in the Nor-Am Cup three times .

Career

Jessica Kelley is the daughter of Lindy Cochran , a successful ski racer of the 1970s, and the sister of Tim and Robby Kelley and the cousin of Jimmy Cochran and Ryan Cochran-Siegle , who also became ski racers. She learned to ski at the family-owned Cochran's Ski Area in northern Vermont.

Kelley contested her first FIS races in December 1997 and started sporadically in the Nor-Am Cup from January 1998 . After winning two FIS races in the winter of 1999/2000, she was regularly in action in the Nor-Am Cup from the 2000/01 season . With two podium places and another five top 10 results, she reached fifth place in the slalom ranking, seventh place in the giant slalom ranking and tenth place in the overall ranking this winter. From winter 2001/02 she started in the European Cup , where she remained without points in the first year. In the 2001/02 season , she celebrated her first victory in the slalom of Hunter Mountain in the Nor-Am Cup and, with a total of seven top 10 results, took tenth place in the overall standings as well as fourth place in the giant slalom and tenth place in the slalom classification. At the Junior World Championships in 2002 , Kelley won the silver medal in giant slalom behind her teammate Julia Mancuso . The year before, she had finished ninth in the giant slalom at the 2001 Junior World Championships . In the 2002/03 season , she won two Nor-Am Cup slalom victories in Val Saint-Come and the first giant slalom in Panorama . In Panorama’s second giant slalom, she came second, which is the first time she won the giant slalom. In the European Cup she won her first points at the beginning of this winter and already achieved two fifth places in February.

Since the winter of 2003/04, Kelley has also competed in the World Cup . However, in the first three years she was only able to qualify for the second run: In the giant slalom in Zwiesel on February 7, 2004, she was the last of the runners to win her first World Cup points with 27th place. In the Nor-Am Cup in the 2003/04 season she achieved third place in the giant slalom ranking, fourth place in the slalom ranking and eighth place in the overall ranking with a victory in the giant slalom in Park City and another two podium places. The 2004/05 season was her most successful: she won two giant slaloms in Winter Park and Mont Sainte-Anne , came third in the Georgian Peaks giant slalom and finished six times in the top five. She won the giant slalom ranking for the second time and only had to admit defeat to the Canadian Brigitte Acton in the overall ranking . There is also a fourth place in the slalom classification. She also got good results in the European Cup. After finishing third in Abetone's first giant slalom last year , she achieved her best European Cup result this winter with second place in the La Molina giant slalom .

In the winter of 2005/06, Kelley only took part in a few Nor-Am and European Cup races and concentrated mainly on the World Cup, but did not score any points. At the beginning of February, she had to end the season early due to back problems. In the 2006/07 season , Kelley was again the best giant slalom runner in the Nor-Am Cup: with three wins and a third place, she won the giant slalom ranking for the third time. In the World Cup on November 25, 2006, she finished 22nd in the giant slalom in Aspen for the second time in her career, and in the giant slalom in Semmering , she also won a World Cup point in 30th place. She qualified for the 2007 World Championships in Åre , where she finished 36th in the giant slalom. After the World Championships, she achieved her best World Cup result on February 24 with 17th place in the giant slalom in the Sierra Nevada . In the 2007/08 season, Kelley drove into the points in two of her five World Cup races. Because of a herniated disc, she was unable to contest races from November 2008 to the end of winter 2008/09. In the 2009/10 season Kelley remained without points in the World Cup, but in the Nor-Am Cup she achieved fifth place in the giant slalom ranking with three top 10 placements. After that winter, Kelley ended her career. After that she only started in a few FIS races.
