Robert Spehar (born May 13, 1970 in Osijek , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian football player .
He played in the first division of Yugoslavia , Croatia , Belgium , France , Italy , Portugal , Turkey and Cyprus . Overall, he was once champion, twice cup winner and three times top scorer .
Career
In the season 1988/89 Špehar was used at NK Osijek for the first time in the first Yugoslav league. After the establishment of the 1st HNL , he developed into a regular player and was regularly among the top scorers in the league. After he was in the meantime under contract with NK Zagreb for one and a half years , he was the top scorer in the Croatian first division in 1994/95. He then moved to the Jupiler League in Belgium for Club Bruges , where he was Belgian champion in 1996 and top scorer in 1997. In the next few years he was unable to build on his earlier successes at AS Monaco , Hellas Verona , Sporting Lisbon , Galatasaray Istanbul and Standard Liège (also due to recurring injuries ). Back in Osijek he was again top scorer of the 1st HNL in the 2003/04 season, before ending his career with Omonia Nicosia the following season .
For the national team of Croatia he made his debut on July 5, 1992 in Melbourne in a friendly against Australia . In total, he was used eight times and scored one goal.
Since August 30, 2010 he has been President of the NK Osijek . His son Dino Špehar began his professional career there at the same time .
