Robert Emmet Smith

Robert Emmet Smith (born August 21, 1914 in California , † August 2, 1988 in Orange County , California) was an American production designer and art director .

Life

Smith began his career in film crew in 1956 as art director in the B-movie - horror film The Creature Walks Among Us by John Sherwood . Until the late 1950s he worked on a number of other feature films as art director, then he switched to television for a few years. There he worked on the television series West of Santa Fé , No Case for FBI and A Case for Michael Shayne, among others . From 1965 he also worked as a production designer for films. 1966 he was for Bryan Forbes ' War King Rat with Frank A. Tuttle for the Oscar in the category Best Production Design nominated, but the award went this year to the literary adaptation The Ship of Fools . Smith worked frequently on western productions , including To the Last Cartridge , Stagecoach to Thunder Rock , He was called Hombre and Rio Lobo .

In 1968 Smith made the short documentary Andy Makes a Movie , in which he directed and camera in one. The film was produced by Andy Warhol Films ; besides Warhol, Susan Hoffman , Paul Morrissey and Joe Dallesandro worked on the black and white film .
