Robert Gucher (born February 20, 1991 in Graz ) is an Austrian football player .

Club career

Career start

Robert Gucher began playing football in the youth of his home club TuS Paldau. After his talent became apparent early on, he switched to the state performance center in Weiz. In 2005 the next career step followed in the Academy of the Grazer AK . There he was named captain of the U-15 team in his first season, with which he also celebrated the AKA championship title.

As of 2006, at the age of 16, he was sporadically accepted into the professional squad before he was allowed to make his debut in the first team for the GAK in 2007. This was followed by six games with one goal in the Austrian Regionalliga Mitte .

Transfer posse to move to Aston Villa

After he noticed a player scout from the traditional English club Aston Villa as the captain of the Austrian U-17 national team , he was invited to a trial training session in which he was able to convince. As a result, he was presented with a three-year contract in the summer of 2007, which he signed.

As a result, there was a controversy between Villa and the GAK. First, the Graz team officially announced the change of player, only to report the change as failed one day before Gucher's departure to Birmingham.

After harsh media criticism for the GAK's approach, the association issued an official statement on the change on September 2, 2007. In a sense, it was made clear that they did not want to deny the player this chance. However, since Aston Villa did not want to pay a transfer fee and Gucher still had a young professional contract until 2009, a dispute arose. After the GAK refused to release, Aston Villa put pressure on the Styrian Association and demanded a player's pass and release. At the same time it was decided to submit an offer to the GAK for the transfer. However, this sum was dubbed “ridiculous” and “an insult to the player and the club” by the GAK. This was followed by a presentation of the facts by the GAK because of "piracy" at FIFA and FA . In the end, you could not agree on a transfer fee with the Premier League club, whereupon Gucher had to stay in Graz.

2008: move to Italy

After the failed move to England, there were still several clubs, mainly Italian ones, who expressed their interest in Gucher. Among other things, it was Udinese Calcio and AC Milan . This was followed by a trial training at Milan, which ended again with a contract offer from the Milanese.

In July 2008, however, his move to Frosinone Calcio became known, which Gucher committed in a double pack with his team-mate from GAK, Dieter Elsneg . Gucher subsequently announced that he decided on Frosinone and against Milan because of the better perspective. In Milan he would have been planned for the youth team, at Frosinone he is in the squad of the professional team. On April 21, 2009 he made his debut in the Italian Serie B against FC Modena .

On February 1, 2010, on the last day of the transfer transition period, Gucher signed a loan agreement with CFC Genoa . As a result, he was a regular in the "Primavera" of the Genoese, with which he was able to win the 2010 Italian youth championship. Simultaneously, he was often in the first team of Il Grifone , but came to no use in Serie A . In July 2010 it was announced that Genoa had acquired 50% of the player's transfer rights from Frosinone.

For the 2010/11 season he was initially loaned back to Frosinone Calcio for the purpose of match practice.

2011: back to Austria

In January 2011 Gucher was awarded to SV Kapfenberg , for which he played 22 games in the Austrian Bundesliga until summer 2012 .

2012: back to Italy

In 2012 the loan to Kapfenberg ended, and Gucher played again for Frosinone Calcio, initially in the third highest Italian league . 2014 promotion to the Serie B . Gucher became a regular player and captain of the team that made it through to Serie A in 2014/15 . The coaches voted him the best Serie B midfielder in 2014/15.

National team

Gucher went through the junior national teams of Austria from the U-16. He led the selections of the U-17 and U-18 as captain on the field. With the U-19 team he qualified for the U-19 European Football Championship in 2009 in Ukraine . On November 3, 2015, Gucher was appointed to the senior national team for a friendly against Switzerland for the first time.
