Robert Philipp Hemmrich (born May 1, 1871 in Gablonz an der Neisse , † April 15, 1946 ibid) was a German-Bohemian architect and builder in Gablonz.

Live and act

Robert Hemmrich was the eldest son of master locksmith Franz Hemrich and his wife Antonie, née Fischer. He studied from 1885 to 1889 at the State Trade School in Reichenberg (now Střední průmyslová škola - SPŠ strojní a elektrotechnická). This school was also attended by the architects Rudolf Bitzan (1872–1938), Josef Zasche (1871–1957) and Gustav Jirsch (1871–1909). He then went on study trips to Germany, Italy and Switzerland. After practical work, he passed the master builder examination in 1895. In 1902 he opened an architectural office in Gablonz, later he lived in his father's house at Prager Strasse 1420/12. With his wife Alma he went on many trips abroad, during which he found inspiration for his designs. In the First World War he was drafted and in 1916 received the military merit medal on the ribbon Signum laudis as a first lieutenant . In the later years Robert Hemmrich was the de facto city architect and city planner for the city administration of Gablonz. A number of his buildings are now listed. During his 40 years of practice, he drew around 3,000 construction plans, 981 of which were implemented. Most of his buildings (around 500) were built in Gablonz and the surrounding area, but some projects were also carried out in Saxony and Austria (more detailed information is not available). He not only designed luxury villas, prestigious townhouses, urban residential buildings, commercial buildings, schools, public baths, sports halls and factory buildings, but also carried out conversions and modernizations of old buildings.

After the end of the Second World War , he was interned with his wife and daughter in the resettlement camp in Reinowitz (Rýnovice) in August 1945. In November 1945 he was released from the internment camp on the instructions of the local administrative commission and worked in the building department in Gablonz. A short time later he died on April 15, 1946. He found his final resting place in the family crypt in the city cemetery in Gablonz. His wife Alma and his daughter Alma Neumann were expropriated and expelled from Gablonz in October 1946.
