Robert Nigmatulin Iskandrowitsch ( Russian Роберт Искандрович Нигматулин , Tatar Роберт Искәндәр улы Нигъмәтуллин , Robert İskändär Uli Niğmätullin * 17th June 1940 in Moscow ) is a Tatar-Russian physicist and university teacher .

Life

Nigmatulin came from a Tatar family. His father Iskander Nigmatulowitsch Nigmatulin (1908–1980) was a thermodynamic scientist and university professor. His mother Galija Lutfullowna Gasisowa (1914-2005) was a doctor . The paternal grandfather Geniatulla Nigmatullowitsch Teregulow was the doctor and founder of the Bashkir Medical Institute in Ufa . The maternal grandfather Lutfulla Abdulgazisov was a Bashkir school director and wrote a Russian textbook for Bashkir and Tatar schools.

Nigmatulin studied at the Moscow Technical University (MWTU) with graduation in 1963 and at the mechanical - mathematical faculty of Lomonosov University Moscow (MGU) with graduation in 1965. He then worked at the Mechanics Institute of MGU and taught at the mechanical-mathematical faculty of MGU. In 1971 he received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences . In 1978 he was appointed professor.

In 1986 Nigmatulin moved to the Tyumen Science Center of the Siberian Department (SO) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR, since 1991 Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN)) and organized the Institute of Mechanics of Multiphase Systems. In 1987 he became a corresponding member of the AN-SSSR and in 1991 a full member of the RAN. In 1993 he became chairman of the executive committee of the Ufa science center at RAN.

In 1995 and 1999 Nigmatulin was elected to the Kurultai State Assembly of the Republic of Bashkortostan . In 1999 he was directly elected to the Duma in Ufa .

In 2006, Nigmatulin became the director of the Shirschow Institute for Oceanography in Moscow . Since 2010 he has headed the chair for wave dynamics and gas dynamics in the mechanical-mathematical faculty of the MGU. He is also the scientific director of the physics faculty at Tyumen State University, where he lectures once a year. In 2013, he and other academics ( Club July 1 ) signed a declaration against the Duma’s plans to amend the law to reform the RAN. After his retirement in 2016, he is the scientific director of the Schirschow Institute for Oceanography. In 2017 he ran for the office of President of RAN. In the second ballot, however, Alexander Mikhailovich Sergeyev was elected, while Nigmatulin was elected to the RAN Presidium as in 2014. Nigmatulin is an expert at the annual international Moscow Economic Forum . He is the author of more than 250 scientific publications, including several books.

At the World Congress of Tatars in 2017 in Kazan Nigmatulin was in the National Milli Shura selected. He is a member of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS).

Nigmatulin is married and has a son Tagir (* 1969) and a daughter Karima (* 1984), who both studied and worked in the USA and returned to Russia. Tagir and Karima became RAN professors in 2016 . Nigmatulin's younger brothers Bulat (* 1943) and Raiss (* 1946) are engineers .
