Robert Kauer (politician)

Robert Kauer (born September 13, 1935 in Vienna ; † January 4, 2019 in Lower Austria ) was an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). From 1978 to 1991 he was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council .

Life

Robert Kauer studied law and Protestant theology , both of which he completed with a master's degree. He then became vicar in Vienna-Neubau , and from September 1963 he was pastor in Berndorf . In 1965, contrary to the instructions of his superintendent, he carried out an ecumenical wedding in Berndorf. Following disciplinary proceedings due to this marriage, he was given permanent retirement in 1966 without any earnings. In 1967 Kauer entered the administrative service of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , from 1976 he was employed at the Federal Geological Institute .

From November 13, 1978 to December 9, 1991, he was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council in the 12th , 13th and 14th electoral periods , where he acted as cultural spokesman for the Vienna ÖVP. He was also the managing director of the Lueger Institute.

From 1981 Kauer worked on a voluntary basis in the Evangelical Church, for example in the presbytery of the parish in Vienna-Landstrasse , in the Vienna Superintendential Assembly and, from 1992, in the Austrian synod. In 1991 he retired as a federal civil servant, in 1994 he was reactivated to head the department for affairs of the Evangelical Church until 1998 as Ministerialrat in the Education Office of the Ministry of Education . In 1997 he was elected to the legal senior church council of the Evangelical Church AB in Austria , in 2000 he was re-elected. He held this position until 2006. He then worked in hospital pastoral care. From 2007 to 2009 he was President of the Austrian Society for Canon Law, and later as its Vice President.

Robert Kauer died in January 2019 at the age of 83.
