Robert Macfarlane (writer)

Robert Macfarlane (born August 15, 1976 in Halam, Nottinghamshire , England ) is an English author .

Life

Macfarlane attended Nottingham High School in Nottingham . He then studied from 1994 to 1997 in Cambridge at Pembroke College , from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). At Oxford University , Magdalen College , he studied for two years and went to a university in Beijing in the People's Republic of China with a teaching position . He received his PhD from Emmanuel College (Cambridge) in 2000 and was elected a Fellow from the same college a year later .

Since 2003, Macfarlane has written five books, some of which have won awards, on landscapes, nature and hiking, placing him among the ranks of past and present authors who deal with nature, places and descriptions of nature. These include, for example, John Muir , Edward Thomas , the author John McPhee and Rebecca Solnit .
