Robert Noorduyn
Robert BC Noorduyn (born April 6, 1893 in Nijmegen , Netherlands , † February 22, 1959 in South Burlington , Vermont , USA ) was a developer and manufacturer of aircraft.
biography
Robert Noorduyn was fluent in Dutch and English because his mother was English .
After receiving technical training in the Netherlands and Germany, he went to England in 1913. There he learned to fly in a Caudron G II and was hired by Sopwith Aviation as a technical draftsman.
In 1917 he worked as chief draftsman with Frits Koolhoven for the British Aerial Transport Company , which he left in 1919 to work for Anton Herman Gerard Fokker in the Netherlands. Since Fokker wanted to expand into the USA, he sent Noorduyn to Teterboro , New Jersey in 1921 to set up a production facility there. There he designed Fokker's universal aircraft , many of which were sold to Canada . There they helped with the settlement and development of the north. Noorduyn also worked on expanding the single-engine Fokker F.VIII by two engines.
In early 1929 he moved to Bellanca in Wilmington , Delaware , where he designed Bellanca Skyrocket . This was an improved version of the Bellanca Pacemaker , which was also used in northern Canada.
In early 1932 he was to design the first four-seater with a cabin for Pitcairn Autogiro .
In autumn 1934, Noorduyn decided to pool his experience at Fokker and Bellanca. The result was the Noorduyn Norseman .
He died at his home in South Burlington , Vermont on February 22, 1959.
