Robert Ernst Rößler (born March 1, 1838 in Großburg , Lower Silesia , † May 20, 1883 in Ratibor ) was a Silesian dialect poet .

Life

His parents were simple country folk. From 1841 the family lived in Gleinitz in the Nimptsch district , where Rößler also attended the village school. His achievements there meant that from 1851 he was able to attend the Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in Breslau . From 1859 he studied philosophy in Breslau. During his studies in 1860 he became a member of the Raczek fraternity . After a break due to military service, he received his doctorate in philosophy in 1865 and passed the state examination. Professionally, he worked as a teacher and rector in Landeshut , Ratibor, Striegau and Sprottau .

The writer Karl von Holtei , whose acquaintance he made in 1861, encouraged him to publish his Silesian dialect poems.

At the age of 45, Robert Rößler died as director of the municipal secondary school in Racibórz of a stroke and was buried there.
