Robert Stix

Robert Stix (born July 27, 1903 in Feldsberg , † April 27, 1974 in Vienna ) was an Austrian electrical engineer and university professor . He was rector of the Vienna University of Technology .

Life

Robert Stix studied electrical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology. From 1925 he worked as an engineer at Siemens-Schuckertwerke , where he was involved in the development of locomotive engines. In 1928 he received his doctorate from the Technical University, and in 1947 he completed his habilitation there for electrical engineering .

From 1952 to 1973 he was a full professor for electrical engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, and in the academic years 1958/59 and 1959/60 he was also dean of the faculty for mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. In the academic year 1966/67 he was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology . During his tenure, among other things, the construction of the new Electrotechnical Institute building on the corner of Favoritenstrasse and Gußhausstrasse began, and the first part of the chemical high-rise on Getreidemarkt was leveled .

In 1971 he was awarded the Great Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria . Robert Stix was a great-great-grandson of Johann Joseph von Prechtl , the first director of the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute . He was buried at the Hietzingen cemetery .

Among other things, the electric motors of the 1042 series locomotives of the Austrian Federal Railways are based on the plans from Stix .
