Status: end of career

Robert Strauss (born October 7, 1986 in Oettingen ) is a former German soccer player . The midfielder was most recently under contract with 1. FC Heidenheim . At the club he works as an assistant to the board of directors.

Career

Robert Strauss, who comes from Großsorheim , played in his youth at SV Großsorheim and TSV 1861 Nördlingen . In 2001, at the age of 14, he moved to the youth team of FC Augsburg . In 2003, at the age of 18, he was used for the first time in the first team that played in the third-rate Regionalliga Süd . Also in his last year of youth he was brought into the first several times before he was finally accepted into the top squad in 2005. In his first senior year, he made 17 appearances as a substitute and at the end of the season he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . He had to wait for his first professional appearance until the ninth matchday of the 2006/07 season , but two game days later he was in the starting line-up and even scored his first professional goal against SC Freiburg . From then on he played almost the entire rest of the season in the regular team. However, he could not maintain the high level the following year, so that he often only sat on the bench and only played one of 23 games over the full season. This worsened in his third year as a professional ( 2008/09 ) because he had got tough competition in his regular position on the right side of midfield, and so he even only sat in the stands at times. Although he only came to six shorter missions that year, he stayed in Augsburg for another year. Although he tore his knee ligament in the early stages of the season , this time he was able to fight his way back into the team. As soon as he was in the starting XI, however, an inner ligament tore after a foul ended his season.

With the expiration of his contract, Strauss moved to the second division promoted FC Erzgebirge Aue for the 2010/11 season . There he missed most of the first half of the season after another torn knee ligament, in the second half of the season he was only used as a substitute. Also in the next season he did not make the jump into the starting eleven and only came to two short appearances in the first half of the season. Therefore, he decided to leave the club during the winter break and go one league lower.

In January 2012, Strauss moved to third division club 1. FC Heidenheim , where he signed a contract until June 30, 2014. With the Swabians he was used again in the second half of the season and came to 14 games. In the following years he established himself as a regular player in the right-back position at FCH. With Heidenheim he finished the 2013/14 season as a third division champion and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga. There they managed to stay out of the league in the following season, Strauss had played 33 of 34 games. In the DFB Cup , he reached the quarter-finals with 1. FC Heidenheim in 2015/16 and 2018/19 . He will no longer renew his contract, which expires on June 30, 2020, and will then end his active career.
