Robert William Donnelly

Robert William Donnelly (born March 22, 1931 in Toledo , Ohio ; † July 21, 2014 there ) was auxiliary bishop in Toledo .

Life

Robert Donnelly studied philosophy and theology at St. Meinrad Seminary, Mount St. Mary's Seminary and St. John University. He was ordained a priest in the Toledo Rosary Cathedral on May 25, 1957 by Bishop George John Rehring . he was active in pastoral care in St. Wendelin Fostoria (1957–1965), St. Charles Toledo (1965–1967) and St. Clement Toledo (1967–1970). He was pastor in St. John Landeck (1970–1974), St. Patrick Spencerville (1970–1974) and St. Mary Sandusky (1974–1981). In 1973 he was chairman of the ecumenical commission and advisor to the synod in the diocese.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Garba and auxiliary bishop in Toledo on March 14, 1984 . The Bishop of Toledo, James Robert Hoffman , ordained him episcopal on May 3 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Daniel Edward Pilarczyk , Archbishop of Cincinnati , and John Anthony Donovan , Former Bishop of Toledo.

Donelly was Vicar General of the Diocese of Toledo from 1983 to 2003 and Apostolic Administrator during the vacancy after the death of Bishop James R. Hoffman until Leonard Paul Blair was appointed as his successor.

On May 30, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
