Robert de Masmines
Robert de Masmines (* around 1387 ; † September 1430 or 1431 ), full name Robert de Rasseghem, Seigneur de Masmines , was a Burgundian knight- captain and knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece . He was lord of Masmines (Massemen), Westrem, Hemelveerdegen, Berlegen and a member of the Conseil de Flandre . In the county of Hainaut he was governor of the Duke of Burgundy.
In "Armorial équestre golden fleece" Robert de Masmines is a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece under the house Burgundy shown, on horseback and in full armor regalia , as 18 as one of the earliest knights of the Duke of Burgundy House Order.
The portrait of a man from around 1425/30 is said to represent Robert des Masmines. It occupies a special place in the work ascribed to the Master von Flémalle (from the workshop of the old Dutch master Robert Campin , * around 1375; † 1444), as it is considered to be one of the earliest autonomous portraits in European painting of modern times the sitter was depicted detached from a religious donor context.
