Roberto Castro (pianist)

Roberto Castro is an Argentine pianist.

Castro initially had piano lessons from his father Juan José Castro and Francisco Amicarelli , which he continued with Vicente Scaramuza . He also studied harmony, counterpoint and composition with Luis Gianneo , Gilardo Gilardi and Jacobo Ficher and orchestral conducting with Mariano Drago .

He then began a career as a piano soloist and worked as a concert pianist with conductors such as Alberto Wolf , Paul Kletzki , José María Castro , Teodoro Fuchs , Olgerts Bistevins , Bruno Bandini and Mario Benzecry . He gave concerts at the Teatro Colón , the Teatro Gran Rex and the Teatro Argentino de La Plata and played a. a. the South American premiere of Béla Bartók's Mikrokosmos .

In the early 1970s, Castro went to Germany, where he lived for eleven years. From here he gave concerts a. a. in Paris, Brussels, Madrid and Valencia and made radio recordings for Südwestfunk Baden-Baden and Radio Vatican . He gave a series of concerts in memory of Clara and Robert Schumann in the Palais Wittgenstein in Düsseldorf .

Castro has lived in Argentina again since 1982. In 1983 he went on a concert tour through Belgium, Germany, Norway and Sweden. In addition to his work as a pianist, Castro was also always active as a music teacher. He was a founding member of the Conservatorio de Música Julián Aguirre . His students include a. Amanda Guerreño , Eduardo Correa , Xavier Gori , Jorge Carciófolo and Susana Agrest . His wife is the music teacher María Rosa Oubiña de Castro .
