Roberto Marcelo Telch (* 6. November 1943 in San Vicente , † 12. October 2014 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine footballer who plays with the national team of his native country at the 1974 FIFA World Cup took part.

Career

Club career

Roberto Telch began his career as an active player with CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires . On September 9, 1962, he made his debut at the age of 18 in the club's first team in a 3-2 win in the league game against Ferro Carril Oeste . Six years later he won his first championship as a player with San Lorenzo, where he played with other Argentinian football greats of the time such as José Albrecht , Rubén Ayala and Rodolfo Fischer . In the Primera División , the Metropolitano competition was won by a 2-1 final win over Estudiantes de La Plata . Telch won the second championship four years later, when both Metropolitano and Nacional competitions were victorious in 1972, so that CA San Lorenzo won two championship titles in 1972. After receiving nothing in 1973, Telch was again successful with San Lorenzo in 1974 and won the Torneo Nacional after taking first place in the final table with one point ahead of CA Rosario Central . After he played another season in the jersey of the club from the capital district Almagro , he moved to Unión de Santa Fe in 1976 , where Telch made another 189 games in the Argentine league until 1979, before moving to CA Colón , also from Santa Fe , in 1980 where he ended his career in 1980 at the age of 37.

Roberto Telch made a total of 413 league games for CA San Lorenzo de Almagro during his career. This makes him the player with the second most appearances in the history of the club. Only Sergio Villar is ahead of him with 446 league games. Telch was able to refer the native Spaniard Ángel Zubieta to third place, who ran 352 times for CA San Lorenzo de Almagro. At the end of his career in 1980, Roberto Telch had completed 630 games in Argentina's top division, which earned him third place in the list of players with the most appearances in the Argentine Primera División behind Hugo Gatti and Ricardo Bochini .

Coaching career

After his active time as a player Telch worked as a coach, mostly in a team with Miguel Ángel Tojo. He mainly coached second division and youth teams, including at CA Banfield but also in Colombia, as well as youth teams from San Lorenzo.

National team

Between 1964 and 1974 Roberto Telch completed 24 international matches for the Argentine national soccer team . He got two goals. He was appointed to the South American squad for the 1974 World Cup in Germany by national coach Vladislao Cap . The World Cup ended for Argentina in the second round with the end of the group behind the Netherlands , Brazil and the GDR . In the preliminary round, the Argentines had previously taken second place behind Poland and ahead of Italy and Haiti . Roberto Telch was active as a regular player at the World Cup and was used in every game until his injury at 0: 4 in the first round match against the Netherlands. He missed the second intermediate round game due to injury, but was able to participate again in the third game of the second group phase and contribute to Argentina's only point win in the second round, a 1-1 against the German Democratic Republic. This game was his last in the national jersey; he ended his national team career after the World Cup.
