Herbert Robin Cayzer, 3rd Baron Rotherwick (* 12. March 1954 ) is a British businessman and politician of the Conservative Party , since 1996 a member of the House of Lords is. With the passage of the House of Lords Act 1999 , he lost the automatic seat in the House of Lords along with all other Hereditary Peers. However, he was elected as one of the 92 elected Hereditary Peers to remain in the House after the reform.

Life

Cayzer is a grandson of the shipowner Herbert Cayzer , who between 1918 and 1922 and again from 1923 to 1939 represented the constituency of Portsmouth South as a member of the House of Commons and first became Baronet of Tylney in 1924 and finally Baron Rotherwick in 1939 .

After attending Harrow School, he himself trained as an officer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was captain of the Life Guards in 1973 . After retiring from active military service, he worked for Barings Bank between 1976 and 1978 and then for British Helicopters until 1980. He was also a reserve officer in the Household Cavalry from 1977 to 1983 and also completed a degree in agricultural science at the Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester , which he graduated with a diploma in 1982.

Cayzer was then as a farmer on his own farm, as well as entrepreneurs and working among others Director of the company Cayzer Continuation PCC Ltd and Cornbury Estates Company Limited .

After the death of his father Herbert Cayzer, 2nd Baron Rotherwick , he succeeded him as Baron Rotherwick in 1996 and at the same time inherited the subordinate title of 3rd Baronet and membership in the House of Lords associated with the baron dignity. After the House of Lords Act 1999 came into force, he was elected one of the Hereditary Peers of the House of Lords . Lord Rotherwick, who between 2000 and 2001 member of the Council of Europe was served between 2001 and 2005 as Parliamentary Secretary ( Whip ) of the opposition faction of the Tories in the House of Lords.
