Robin Sochan (born June 8, 1977 in Mission , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing for EHC Erfurt in the Oberliga-Ost since 2015 .
Career
Robin Sochan learned to play ice hockey in his homeland with the Cowichan Valley Capitals in the British Columbia Hockey League . From 1998 to 2002 he played for the Acadia Axemmen, a college team of Acadia University , in the game operations of the Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union , the later Canadian Interuniversity Sport . There he was able to quickly improve his skills, so that he was elected to the league's All-Star Team in the 2001/02 season.
He gained his first international experience in 2001 at the FISU Universiade in Zakopane , Poland . He was selected to represent Canada in this ice hockey tournament. Robin earned recognition for his efficient two-way game.
After graduating from college, he ventured across the Atlantic and moved to the Bayreuth Tigers in the league for the 2002/03 season . But when after the 2003/04 season an offer from the Dresdner Eislöwen was on the table, he decided to continue playing professional ice hockey in Germany.
With the Eislöwen he became an important pillar of the team in his first season, both in defensive and offensive play. His quick steps from his own third to the opposing goal have made him famous among fans of the ESC. He is also characterized by a very fair style of play with very good defensive behavior, so that he has to serve few penalties.
In the second year in Dresden he was able to improve his performance further and became the ESC's defender with the highest points with a total of 11 goals and 37 assists . With this he finished in the top ten of the defenders with the highest points in the 2nd Bundesliga . In the following season , with ten goals and 29 assists, he was again the Eislöwen's defender with the highest points, but moved to the Mosquitos Essen after they were relegated to the league .
This was followed by a year with the Schwenninger Wild Wings before he signed a contract with the Lausitzer Füchsen for the 2009/10 season. From July 2010 he was again under contract with the Dresdner Eislöwen. For the 2011/12 season, the Canadian was signed by the Dutch club HYS The Hague from the Eredivisie .
From 2012 to 2015 Sochan played in Germany for the MEC Hall 04 in the Oberliga-Ost and was always one of the defenders with the highest points in the Eastern season. He then moved to EHC Erfurt , where he continues to be one of the best offensive defenders in the league.
